The temperature was above 45°c people were used to summer, but this time it was worst. The village became very quiet. Birds stopped flying, and cows stayed under trees. No one wanted to go out.
HOT  DAYS  AND  NIGHTS  :
Every day started with heat. Even before sunrise, it felt warm. VISHNU, a 12 year old boy, woke up sweating his house had no fan or cooler. The electricity was gone most of the day.
"Papa, will we have electricity today? Vishnu asked.
His father said, " No the wires are damaged. It is too hot. No is fixing them.
At night, people slept on rooftops, but the air was still hot. No one could sleep well.

Water became a big problem. The well in the village dried up. The hand pump gave very little water. People walked 2-3 kilometers ro get water from a small canal.
Bharathi, an old lady, woke up at 4AM every day to get water. "This summer feels like fire, " She said.
People waited in long lines just to fill two pots of water. Sometimes they even argued in the queue.

•• Make a cool shelter for old people and children
••Use solar fans
•• Give free butter milk and ORS to everyone
Children gave their  small savings. Women cooked food for all. Young people told others how to stay safe. Everyone worked together.
RAIN FINALLY  CAME  :
After many hot days, dark clouds came. A cool wind blew. Then it rained! people came out of their homes, smiling and dancing. Children played in the rain. The ground became cool. The trees looked green again.
THE VILLAGE STAYED  STRONG :

The people of Rampet learned something important.
