The Foolish City Daughter-in-Law
In a small village nestled between green fields and serene rivers, lived a wise mother-in-law named Annapurna. She was traditional, smart, and deeply rooted in values. Her son, Ramu, got married to a modern city girl named Swathi — stylish, proud, and a bit careless when it came to rural customs.
From the moment Swathi stepped into the house, clashes began between tradition and modern attitude.
The Daily Drama
Swathi, being from the city, looked down upon the village lifestyle. She didn’t know how to cook on a mud stove, fetch water from the well, or even greet elders with respect. Instead of learning, she would say, “Why should I do all this? We have machines and helpers in the city!”
Annapurna, though frustrated, decided not to argue. She believed actions speak louder than words.
A Clever Plan
One day, Annapurna called her son and said, “Ramu, let’s go to the temple for three days. Let Swathi manage the house alone. Maybe then she will learn the importance of running a home properly.”
Ramu agreed. Swathi was overconfident. “Don't worry, Aunty... oops, I mean Mom! I can handle it. I’m a modern woman after all.”
As soon as they left, the troubles began.
The Funny Chaos
Swathi burned the rice trying to cook on the traditional stove.
She confused wheat flour with soap powder and made chapatis that smelled awful.
When the milkman came, she forgot to boil the milk and it went sour.
She didn’t tie the cows properly, and one cow wandered into the neighbor’s field, creating a huge mess.
Worst of all, she called a plumber for no reason, thinking the hand pump was broken when she simply didn’t know how to use it!
By the end of the third day, the house was in chaos, the neighbors were angry, and Swathi was exhausted.
The Realization
When Annapurna and Ramu returned, they saw Swathi sitting in the kitchen with tears in her eyes. She stood up and said, “Mom, I’m sorry. I thought running a village home was easy. But I now realize your intelligence, strength, and experience. Please teach me!”
Annapurna smiled and hugged her. “We all learn with time, my dear. Being modern is not wrong, but being wise is more important.”
Moral of the Story:
Modern life is easy, but it doesn’t make us wise. Real intelligence comes from experience, respect, and understanding our roots. Never underestimate the power of traditional wisdom.
